Eternity is the Difference
To know about Jesus, or to know Jesus personally, is a decision that we all have to make eventually. It might seem to be relatively simple; but in practice, it is considerably more difficult. To begin with, it’s vitally important that we understand the differences between these two choices, and what we can expect once we select one of them; particularly considering that our final choice will affect the rest of our lives, here on earth and where we will spend eternity.
There are many ways that we can know ‘about Jesus’; thru a conversation with someone, a news broadcast, or by attending a Revival. All of these require little spiritual understanding or decision making. There are also those who believe they are ‘Born-again’ Christians thru a legacy; possibly their parents or grandparents were ‘Born-again. Or maybe, claiming to be ‘Born-again’ will help them feel more comfortable with their friends or business associates.
Some people learn about Jesus in a more formal setting; possibly thru a Bible study or small group, they attend with friends or church members. This method is better, as now The Holy Spirit has an opportunity to share and infuse biblical knowledge into our hearts and minds. Christ also has an opportunity to draw us closer to Himself; thereby encouraging us to confess our sins, ask for forgiveness, and receive Salvation.
In Matthew 7: 23, Jesus stated to those who claimed to be ‘Born-again Christians… "Depart from Me you workers of iniquity, I never knew you… they knew about Jesus, but they never knew The Savior personally. And in Matthew 15: 8; Jesus instructs us… “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain, as their teachings are merely human rules”. Jesus would rather that we know Him and His Father-in-Heaven in a more personal way; not just superficially. So, remember, that without confession of sin and forgiveness thru the only person that can forgive sin, you can never know Jesus or God personally.
Changing gears some… to know ‘Jesus personally’ requires that we meet Him at the Cross. is to experience him completely. Meeting Him at The Cross is just the 1st step to complete this relationship. Only then can we begin the process of understanding who He is, what’s on His mind and how He wants us to live. Fortunately, Jesus and God’s Holy Spirit, are patient with us. They don’t need to move forward too quickly, as they have all the time in the world. John 17: 3; tells us… ‘This is eternal life, that we may know the only True God, and His Son Jesus Christ. And during the process of getting to know and understand the character and the mind-of-Christ; God’s Holy Spirit is molding and shaping us into the image of His Son, Jesus.
I can assure you that after a period of time, God’s wisdom, knowledge, and understanding will have imprinted your heart and mind. You will understand and experience deep intimacy with God and your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I realized that Jesus knew everything about me and all that was in my heart and on my mind. I was able to share my deepest thoughts, fears, and desires with Him. It’s like a marriage when two people commit to giving 100% of themselves to each other. And once they do, they have the freedom to enjoy a love affair that was designed by God. This is the same that is required from every believer, to build a lasting relationship with God and Christ. It takes time, but the results are well worth the effort.
